It may come as a surprise to some, but I have always thought of myself as a pretty open-minded person. When it comes to religion, I firmly believe that people should have the freedom to believe and worship as they see fit. This is, of course, in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution and it is very important. However, intelligent people will tell you the freedoms of one stop when they infringe on the freedoms of others. I am not generally a hateful person. But there is some hate I am happy to claim. I hate evil and I hate those who support it though their actions OR their silence. So this brings me to Islam.
History clearly shows that there has been strife in the Muslim world since, well, pretty much forever. Think back, can you come up with any time when The Middle East was a totally chill place? I doubt it! Still, let me know if you come up with anything. But as far as American's were concerned, the problems of the Middle East had never really been problems for us. It didn't come to our soil, and the percentage of Muslim American's was so small that most American's didn't really know anything about Islam. Out of sight, out of mind. Right? However, in November of 1979, fifty two Americans were taken hostage by the Islamic Republic of Iran. They were held by the Iranian government for 444 days. This was, sadly, only the beginning of Americans in the Middle East being singled out for Islamic attacks. In the early 90's America got another taste of The Middle East in general, and Islamic Terrorism in specific when good ol' Saddam Hussein (lunatic Iraqi dictator), invaded the small nation of Kuwait and America sent troops over to deal with him. It was often parodied on Saturday Night Live and that's about all the average citizen knew about that (most people aren't super curious). Then in '93 the World Trade Center was bombed. Yes, I said '93 and bombed. Because a group called Al Qaeda (lead by a monster named Osama bin Laden) car bombed the World Trade Center and caused six deaths and over a thousand wounded. I think a lot of people have forgotten about that because sadly, it turned out to be mild when compared to what was to come.
Regardless of the fact that by this point there were terror attacks going on in others parts of the world (the 24 news cycle wasn't what it is today), first world nations were still living lives of relative blissful ignorance (again with the out of sight thing). Then on 9/11 America was attacked again by Al Qaeda and it became very hard for anyone to deny that there was a group of evil people out there that had it in for us. Almost three thousand people killed in a single day is a sign that's hard to ignore. Not so out of sight anymore. Still, many people came out and said that we needed to not blame all Muslims. That they had not committed this evil and should not be punished for it. I was one of those people. Of course they all didn't do it. The suggestion is ludicrous on it's face. But here it is 2016, almost fifteen years after those attacks. And the truth about Islam, its' teachings and what its' devout believers will do, is becoming clearer with each passing day.
In the last few years, nations all over the world have been attacked in the name of Islam at a startlingly growing rate. The US, Great Britain, Spain, France, Belgium, Australia to name only a few. The reality is that there are terror attacks every single day. EVERY DAY. There has also been what can only be described as an invasion into Europe by young Muslim men who are attacking, raping and murdering woman and children in record numbers. Sweden has literally become the rape capital of Europe, and it's not Swedish men doing to raping. All because their culture is different. What "culture" might that be? But still, how can we blame the whole religion? I mean come on, there are millions of Muslims. They're not all doing this stuff. No, of course they aren't! But then why are the ones who are doing it, doing it in the name of Islam if the religion has nothing to do with it? Are they even reading the same book? Yes and no.
The Quran is super clear as to what a devout Muslim must do for their faith. How women are to be treated is clear (totally covered, regularly beaten, half the worth of a man, etc.), and how non believers are also to be treated is clear (killed). Muslims who do not follow these teaching to the letter are also considered to be apostates (one who has turned away from Islam), which is the reason that Muslims are the most likely to be used as sex slaves, tortured and murdered by Islamic terrorists. Being "Muslim" doesn't make you safe.
So here's the deal. For all the good people who believe they are Muslim, but would never do these evil things, the time for choosing is now. If your hearts are pure, the only thing to do is to bring about an Islamic reformation. Muhammad was a monster. He raped children, he married little girls, he beat woman, he murdered en mass, and then he told all men to do the same. This is your prophet?! You can't have it both ways. You can't say you believe and follow evil teachings, but not be evil yourselves. You just can't. Knowing something is evil but standing by and doing nothing is also evil (I'm talking to you Orlando shooter's wife!). But if you find the strength to reform your religion and remove what is evil and wrong, then you can truly stand up and say 'We are not them, we do not believe in the same things!', and others will believe you. All good people should/need to be on the same team. But if you won't. It can only be assumed that you support it. There is no other way to see it.
Many people will read this piece and think it is about hate. But the truth is that it is a cry out against hate. When people say the the vast majority of Muslims are good, they are right. But a silent majority has no voice, no power. Please find out the truth and speak out against real evil. If you don't, you don't matter. That's all there is to it.
